New Learning Disabilities Program at LBA!
New to LBA! The
Search & Teach program has
arrived. This program is based on extensive interdisciplinary research at the
Learning Disorders Unit at New
York University
Medical Center. Search is a scanning tool (that seems like
fun games) which helps to identify children who are vulnerable to learning
problems. Each kindergartner and first-grader will receive a one-on-one
assessment with Mrs. Weideman ($35 value, free to LBA students!) The teachers
will then be provided with a profile of your child's strengths and weaknesses in
neuropsychological skills basic to learning to read, write, and spell. The
purpose of the scanning is to guide intervention to those children who might
need it before the child has problems. That's where the Teach component comes in. If a child is
found to be vulnerable to learning problems, the parent will then be presented
with a report to discuss the areas of concern and how Teach might be used as an early
intervention.
